RBEEquipment · Backhoe loader

Backhoe loader rental for serious site work in Kumaon.

One wheeled machine that loads, digs, levels and drives itself to the next work front. RBE supplies a JCB backhoe loader — from a range of models, depending on your project and what is available — with an RBE operator, for 15 days or more, from Haldwani or Majkhali (Ranikhet). The most versatile machine on a hill road or a building site, when it is the right fit for your scope.

01The machine

Two working ends. One operator.

A backhoe loader — often called a “JCB” in India, after one well-known manufacturer — is a wheeled tractor with a loader bucket at the front and a digging arm at the rear. It drives to the work front on its own wheels.

02Loader end

Load, carry and fill the tipper.

The front bucket (typically about 1.0–1.1 m³) crowds into a stockpile, lifts to tipper height and loads it — the same bucket back-fills, levels and clears.

03Mobility

Turns within its own working space.

On a narrow plot or a single-lane hill road, the machine reverses, turns and re-positions without a second machine or a wide turning area.

04Stabilisers

Stabilisers down before any digging.

The stabiliser legs lower onto firm ground and lift the rear slightly, so the backhoe can dig without rocking the machine. The seat turns to face the rear.

05Backhoe end

Footings, trenches and pits — to line and depth.

Here: a 2.4 m column footing dug in three passes to 1.8 m, spoil kept beside the pit for back-fill. Maximum dig depth for this class is about 4.5–6 m; practical depth depends on soil and shoring.

06Your site

One machine where you would otherwise need two.

Loading, digging, back-filling and moving between work fronts on one shift. Tell us the scope and we will confirm whether a backhoe loader is the right machine.

02What it does on site

What a backhoe loader can do on a construction project.

ALoader end

  • Loading tippers and trucks
  • Back-filling trenches and behind walls
  • Levelling and grading plots
  • Clearing debris and slips
  • Moving material around the site
  • Spreading sub-base on access roads

BBackhoe end

  • Drain and utility trenches
  • Footing and column-pit excavation
  • Culvert and chamber pits
  • Cutting road edges and banks
  • Retaining-wall foundations
  • Breaking rock with the hydraulic breaker

CMobility

  • Drives between nearby work fronts on its own wheels
  • Turns and works in narrow hill-road space
  • One machine and one operator instead of two
  • Quick to re-position as work moves along a road

RBE has a hydraulic rock breaker. If your work runs into rock, say so in your enquiry so the breaker and its dates are part of the quote. Large rock faces and continuous rock excavation are still tracked-excavator work.

See these tasks organised by project: road construction, hill cutting, site development, trenching and utilities.

03Typical specification

Typical figures for the class, for planning.

RBE works with JCB backhoe loaders across a range of models. Which model goes to your site depends on the work and on availability for your dates, so there is no single specification to publish. The ranges here are typical for the 7–8 tonne backhoe loaders used on Indian sites — they are not a promise about the machine you receive. The model and its specification are confirmed in your quote.

How deep can a backhoe loader dig?

About 4.5 to 6 metres at maximum, depending on the model and dipper.

Practical trench depth on site is usually less and depends on soil, shoring and safety.

04Honest fit

When a backhoe loader is not the right machine.

Sending the wrong machine wastes your schedule and ours. RBE rents backhoe loaders only. If your scope looks like the right-hand column, a tracked excavator should be the main machine — a backhoe loader can still support it.

Backhoe loader fits

  • Mixed work: dig, load, back-fill, level
  • Work spread along a road or across a site
  • Trenches, footings, drains, culvert pits
  • Tight hill plots and narrow roads
  • Moving between nearby sites on wheels

Choose an excavator

  • Continuous bulk excavation all day
  • Continuous hard-rock excavation
  • High formation cuts on hill roads
  • Deep, large-volume foundation pits
  • Heavy lifting of pipes or blocks

05Working in the hills

What changes when the site is in the hills.

Access

Road width, hairpin bends and the last few hundred metres to the plot decide how the machine arrives. We ask for these before confirming a date.

Ground

Loose debris over rock and soft road shoulders mean the machine must work from stable ground, with stabilisers on firm footing.

Season

From about June to September, slips and road closures are part of the plan. Mobilise early and keep schedule buffer.

Support

At remote sites, diesel, the operator’s stay and breakdown handling are agreed before the machine leaves. RBE’s Majkhali base means inner-hill sites are not supported only from the plains.

06Rental terms

Hire for 15 days, a month or the whole project.

RBE does not rent by the hour or the day. The minimum is 15 days, and every rental includes an operator. Tell us the scope and we will suggest the period that matches it; everything included is stated in writing before the machine is dispatched.

  1. 15 days — the minimumA defined package of work on a project site: a run of side drains, a set of footings, a utility line.
  2. Monthly hireThe machine and operator on site through a phase of work, extended if your programme runs longer, subject to availability.
  3. Project durationCommitted to your contract phase, with breakdown handling agreed in writing before mobilisation.

What every quote confirms

  • Machine and its specification
  • Rental period and working hours per day
  • Operator — shift hours and stay
  • Diesel — included or by you
  • Mobilisation and return
  • Idle-time and breakdown terms
  • Rock breaker, if needed
  • GST invoice, if required
