RBEService area · Kumaon, Uttarakhand

Backhoe loaders across Kumaon — Terai to high ridges.

Rudrapur and Haldwani sit a few hundred metres above sea level. Mukteshwar is over 2,000 m. The same machine works in both — but getting it there is planned differently. That is why RBE dispatches from two bases: Haldwani at the foot of the hills, and Majkhali near Ranikhet, inside them.

01Where we deploy

Two deployment bases. Sites across six districts.

Kumaon is the eastern division of Uttarakhand, made up of six districts: Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Almora, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Champawat. The machine is dispatched from Haldwani (Nainital district) and Majkhali (near Ranikhet, Almora district), and works on project sites around the towns below.

A site does not need to be in one of these towns. If it is a village road above Bageshwar or a resort plot beyond Ramgarh, send the location and we will plan from there.

01Deployment base

Machines leave from Haldwani, where the plains meet the hills.

Haldwani (about 425 m) sits at the foot of the Kumaon hills, beside the Kathgodam railhead where the hill roads begin. Sites in the plains and lake district are planned from here; RBE’s second base at Majkhali, near Ranikhet, serves the inner hills.

02The network

From Haldwani, routes into every belt of Kumaon.

Kumaon is the eastern division of Uttarakhand — Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Almora, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Champawat districts. From Haldwani, machines reach the plains, the lake district and the inner hills.

03Terai & plains

Rudrapur (210 m), Pantnagar (240 m), Kashipur (230 m), Haldwani (425 m), Kathgodam (550 m). Closest to RBE’s Haldwani base, with flat, open access between sites.

04Mid-hills

Lake district & mid-hills.

Bhimtal (1,370 m), Bhowali (1,700 m), Nainital (2,080 m), Ramgarh (1,790 m), Mukteshwar (2,280 m). Narrow, winding roads with hairpin bends and little room to stage equipment.

05Inner hills

Inner Kumaon hills.

Ranikhet (1,870 m), Almora (1,640 m), Bageshwar (1,000 m), Berinag (1,860 m). RBE’s second base is at Majkhali, on the Ranikhet–Almora road — so sites here do not have to wait for a machine to climb up from the plains.

06Your site

Nearly two thousand metres of difference in one region.

Altitude brings narrower roads, steeper plots, colder mornings and longer travel. Send the site location and we will plan how the machine gets there.

03Rudrapur · Pantnagar · Kashipur · Haldwani · Kathgodam

Terai & plains gateway

Site realities

  • Closest to RBE’s Haldwani base, with flat, open access between sites.
  • Industrial estates, warehouses, townships and plotted developments.
  • Monsoon waterlogging and soft ground affect when and how you excavate.

Typical work here

  • Site levelling and grading
  • Foundation and footing excavation
  • Drainage and utility trenching
  • Bypass and approach-road work

04Bhimtal · Bhowali · Nainital · Ramgarh · Mukteshwar

Lake district & mid-hills

Site realities

  • Narrow, winding roads with hairpin bends and little room to stage equipment.
  • Plots are often cut into slopes — retaining walls and drainage come first.
  • Tight working space suits a compact, wheeled, two-ended machine.

Typical work here

  • Slope cutting for building plots
  • Retaining-wall foundation trenches
  • Hill-road shoulder and side-drain work
  • Debris and slip clearance

05Almora · Ranikhet · Bageshwar · Berinag

Inner Kumaon hills

Site realities

  • RBE’s second base is at Majkhali, on the Ranikhet–Almora road — so sites here do not have to wait for a machine to climb up from the plains.
  • Beyond Almora — towards Bageshwar and Berinag — mobilisation is still long; route and timing are planned, not improvised.
  • Remote sites mean servicing and spares need to be arranged before work starts.
  • Monsoon landslides can close roads for days; schedules need buffer.

Typical work here

  • Rural and link-road formation
  • Road widening and side drains
  • Culvert and small-bridge approaches
  • Institutional and project site preparation

06Deployment planning

What decides how fast a machine reaches your site.

Can a backhoe loader be deployed to a remote construction site in Kumaon?

Yes, with planning. For remote sites — around Bageshwar, Berinag or deep in Almora district, for example — RBE needs the exact location, the condition of the access road (width, bends, gradient, last stretch), where the machine will park overnight, and how diesel and the operator’s stay will be arranged. With that, mobilisation is planned before the start date instead of being worked out on the road.

Does a backhoe loader travel to site on its own wheels or on a trailer?

Both are common. A backhoe loader is road-going, so it is often driven over short and moderate distances. For longer moves, or where timing and road conditions make it sensible, it goes on a trailer. Which one applies to your site is confirmed as part of the mobilisation plan.

  1. Availability on your dateConfirmed first — before anything else is planned.
  2. Which base, and the routeFrom Haldwani or from Majkhali (Ranikhet); which road, and how long it takes.
  3. Access road conditionWidth, hairpin bends, gradient and the last-mile surface to the plot.
  4. Travel methodOn its own wheels or on a trailer, depending on distance and route.
  5. SeasonMonsoon slips and closures, and snow on higher sites in winter, mean earlier mobilisation and buffer.
  6. Stay and suppliesOvernight parking, diesel and operator accommodation at remote sites.

07New to Kumaon?

Executing a project here from outside the state.

Many contracts in Kumaon are won by companies based elsewhere. The work is familiar; the terrain, routes and seasons often are not.

  • The plains are the gateway. Haldwani and Kathgodam are where the hill roads begin. Plan site visits and mobilisation through them.
  • Hill distances are measured in hours, not kilometres. A move that looks short on a map can take a full day on mountain roads.
  • The monsoon reshapes the programme. From about June to September, slips and closures are normal. Front-load earthwork and drainage before the rains where you can.
  • Arrange equipment before you need it. A machine that is free at short notice in the plains is rarely free at short notice at a remote hill site.
  • Hourly hire does not travel well. Hill mobilisation takes time, which is why RBE rents for 15 days or more and always with an operator.

RBE’s head office is in Plot No 71A, Sector 27C, Faridabad, Haryana — within reach for teams based in Delhi NCR — and the machine is dispatched from Haldwani and Majkhali (Ranikhet). Share your work-order scope, site locations and programme, and RBE confirms availability, mobilisation and terms in writing. See how rental works.
